Our Talented Young Members

Would you believe we have yet more reasons to be proud of the youth in our church family?

You've had the pleasure of enjoying the talents of the White girls, Melora Slotnick and Neftaly Lopez, but did you know we have a very talentedJonesboro High School trombonist in the church family, as well? I hope you will soon be hearing that side of Alex Westervelt; we are working on that! And Alex is a well-rounded young man, who is also a good football player. When he has "spare time," Alex enjoys spending time with friends (and a special someone named Christina!), swimming, traveling and music.

Speaking of Jonesboro High School, their Mock Trial Team has bested 14 other teams, to take home the winning three-foot wooden gavel in the Georgia Mock Trial Competition. And our own Laura Parkhouse is one of the team members! The students staged a trial, and presented arguments and objections for both the prosecution and defense sides, complete with witnesses, evidence, and had to think quickly "on their feet." Teams were evaluated by attorneys and judges, and part of the Jonesboro Team now advances on to the national competition in Oklahoma City. Way to go, Laura and JHS! We are very proud of you, Laura!! For more info, please see the Clayton News-Daily article posted outside the Youth Room.

Many of you recently enjoyed some of the musical talent of Ashley White, when she accompanied the choir on her trumpet (And you can look for more to come in the future!).Ashley is in the Jonesboro High School Wind Symphony, whose performance recently garnered the highest possible ratings, all "Superiors" at "Festival." Festival is a judged and graded performance of the band and its director. This included being judged on their performance of a piece that no one, not even the director, had ever seen before! The band and director had 6 minutes to study the piece, without playing a single note, and then performed it. JHS scored a "superior" on this sight-reading portion, as well! Kudos to Ashley and the Symphony! We are very proud of you also, Ashley!!
