The Emerging
Partnership Between
First Presbyterian
Church of Jonesboro and
Korean
Presbyterian Church of Georgia
After
many meetings, deliberations, and prayer the Task Force that is
working with the elder representatives from the Korean Presbyterian
Church of Georgia (KPCG) took a recommendation to the Session at the
August 20, 2006 stated meeting. The recommendation was that
beginning October 8, 2006 our Sunday School and worship time will be
? hour earlier. The Session voted in favor of this recommendation.
This means that Sunday will begin at 9:15 and worship services will
begin at 10:30. We know that change is often stressful but we
believe God is calling us to share the bounties of His blessings
with our brothers and sisters in faith.
Please know
that this was not done in a cavalier way. We had discussions with
Sunday School classes and others on an individual basis. The general
consensus is that we can make this change. Beginning Sunday, October
8, the schedule for Sunday is as follows:
9:15 Sunday
School for FPCJ
10:30 Worship
(FPCJ and English speakers from
KPCG)
This service
will be led by our pastor.
11:30
Fellowship for FPCJ
11:45 Worship
(Korean speaking service for
KPCG)
11:45
Concurrent Sunday School for children,
youth and
English speaking adults of
KPCG
1:00 Fellowship
for KPCG
We will
celebrate this emerging partnership with a joint service on World
Communion Sunday, October 1, 2006. Both churches will come together
for a joint worship service, breaking bread together, and enjoying a
luncheon afterwards. This service will be held at 11:00 am. The new
times will go into effect the following Sunday.
In addition,
both congregations will share space in the Family Life Center. The
KPCG will utilize two of the currently unused classrooms for
offices. The KPCG will also share in the cost of the space used.
If you have any
questions about this process, please see a member of the joint Task
Force: John Westervelt, co-chair, Cyndi Smith, co-chair, Clyde
Cooper, Pat Hockett, Carol Elder, Alan Bergmann, and Kevin Taylor.
On behalf of this committee, we thank you for your openness of
"heart and home." This is an exciting time in the life of this
church. God is good!
